PepsiCo is expanding its presence in the U.S. refrigerated and fresh ready-to-eat food sector by introducing the Spanish cold soup brand Alvalle.

Alvalle is a Mediterranean-style cold soup made with sun-ripened tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and extra virgin olive oil, and is now available at select Whole Foods stores in the U.S.

Alvalle is not a new brand for PepsiCo. It has previously been sold in Spain, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden, and Russia.

Alvalle's entry into the U.S. market comes at a time of growing consumer demand for foods with simple, recognizable ingredients. It also reflects PepsiCo's strategic intent to expand into the deli section and other fresh areas where foot traffic continues to rise.

According to Numerator data cited by PepsiCo, in 2025, consumer visits to the perimeter of supermarkets (fresh, deli, etc.) are growing 15% faster than visits to the center aisles (where PepsiCo's traditional snacks and beverages are sold). Alvalle cold soup is positioned as a light meal, snack, or accompaniment.

"Alvalle meets a very real consumer need—people want to eat foods made with recognizable ingredients that fit into their daily lives," said Pol Codina, Senior Vice President and General Manager of PepsiCo Foods Ventures, in a statement. "As we expand our portfolio, we are committed to bringing more real, ingredient-led foods into everyday eating occasions."

The soup brand was founded in 1991 in Murcia, Spain, and was acquired by PepsiCo eight years later. Today, Alvalle is the leader in the refrigerated cold soup category in Spain, with a 17% market share, according to Nielsen data cited by PepsiCo.

Alvalle's U.S. launch not only expands PepsiCo's business in the refrigerated fresh area, but also broadens its fresh food operations, complementing its core snack business known for brands like Doritos, Cheetos, and Sun Chips.

PepsiCo has been steadily expanding into fresh, meal-related foods and the growing refrigerated category in recent years. In 2024, the company acquired the remaining 50% stakes in the Sabra and Obela dips and spreads brands that it did not already own. Additionally, next week, Tostitos guacamole will also hit U.S. retail shelves.

The combination of brands such as Sabra, Tostitos guacamole, and Alvalle strengthens PepsiCo's ability to serve consumers across a broader range of eating occasions.

"People's eating habits continue to evolve, and we see growing demand for foods that offer both convenience, quality, and great taste," said Marisa Perez, Senior Vice President and General Manager of PepsiCo Foods U.S. Fresh Experiences portfolio, in an emailed statement.
